Olivier Giroud has announced that the current season with Lille will likely be the last of his professional career, after more than 20 years spent on the football fields.
Olivier Giroud, who will celebrate his 40th birthday tomorrow, Wednesday, said in statements to the newspaper "L'Équipe": "This season is probably my last, and that's why I enjoy every moment. I am at peace with myself and with everything I have achieved in my career, and I feel more comfortable than ever."
Despite nearing retirement, the Lille striker remains influential this season, having scored one goal and provided two assists in six matches. Giroud returned to Ligue 1 in the summer of 2025 from Los Angeles FC, after a successful career with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Milan, as well as the French national team.
Olivier Giroud scored 11 goals with Lille last season before extending his contract for an additional year last June. He confirmed that his return to France was one of his best decisions, stating: "I am very happy to receive an exceptional welcome in all the French stadiums I play in."
