Algeria drew 2-2 against their hosts Burundi on Tuesday at the Intwari Stadium in Bujumbura, in the second round of Group 9 in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualification 2027.
The "Greens" started the match in a difficult manner, as they fell behind by two goals within the first 12 minutes; Farès Chaïbi opened the scoring with an own goal in the 5th minute, before Jean Claude Jérômegisha added the second goal for Burundi in the 12th minute.
Mohammed Bashir Beloumi reduced the deficit for Algeria in the 30th minute, scoring his first international goal for the national team.
In the second half, the Algeria national team continued their attempts to come back, and Adil Boulbina managed to equalize in the 63rd minute, making the score 2-2. The "Greens" tried to snatch a winning goal during the remaining minutes, but the match ended without any change in the score.
Himad Abdelli was substituted due to injury, with Adem Zorgane coming on in his place. The nature of the injury to the Olympique Marseille midfielder is still unclear.
With the draw, Algeria has raised its tally to 4 points at the top of the group, while Burundi has earned its first point, awaiting the result of the Zambia vs Togo match scheduled in the same round. Before the start of that match, the group standings are as follows: Algeria 4 points, Togo 3 points, Burundi 1 point, Zambia 0 points.
