The Iraqi Premier League is set to resume after a long hiatus due to international commitments and the Iraqi national team's participation in the Gulf Cup 27 in Saudi Arabia.

The ninth round of the Iraqi Premier League is set to kick off with an exciting clash as Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya visit Nineveh SC in a match where both sides seek to regain their balance.

The match will take place on the evening of Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Duhok Stadium in the north of the country. This stadium has been chosen by Mosul FC to host its matches this season due to the unavailability of its own stadium.

The match will kick off at 6 PM Baghdad time, with expectations of a large turnout, especially from the Falcons fans who travel with their team everywhere.

Al Quwa Al Jawiya, the champions of the previous edition of the league, enter this match in a troubling position, both in terms of performance and results, as well as administratively.

The Falcons have started the season very poorly and disappointing their fans, as the team that dominated the league last season now finds itself battling in the lower positions.

The team comes from a disappointing 1-1 draw against Diyala in the last round, a match they could have emerged from with three valuable points. However, Diyala equalised from a penalty in the dying moments of the game, costing the Falcons another two points.

Al Quwa Al Jawiya are currently in 13th place in the table with only 8 points from 8 matches, a very poor tally for a team of their stature. The team, led by their coaching staff, is striving to secure all three points against Al Mosul at any cost to escape the danger zone and restore confidence among the players.

Al-Jaish are suffering from major problems lately, most notably player complaints led by Zaid Tahseen and Mousa Alaa due to delayed payments, which has negatively impacted the team's atmosphere.

On the other hand, Al-Mosul Club enters the match in a difficult position despite their impressive start to the season.

The northern team has made a great start in the first 4 rounds, emerging as the dark horse of the league, achieving positive results that placed them in advanced positions. However, their level has noticeably declined in the last 4 rounds, where they have not secured any wins and suffered three consecutive defeats.

Mosul currently sits in 15th place with 8 points, level on points with Al Quwa Al Jawiya but trailing on goal difference, making Wednesday's match a six-pointer for both teams.

Mosul will rely on home advantage and the support of their fans in Duhok, as well as the great enthusiasm of their young players who want to prove themselves against the league champions.

In their last encounter, Al Quwa Al Jawiya triumphed over Al Sikkar with a score of 2-1 in an exciting match, and that was in the last season in which the Falcons were crowned champions.
